The Balance Class
One can but wonder how life has run
    for these my Monday colleagues, 
a dozen or so, of ladies mostly, smilingly intent upon this hour, 
to stretch and reach, to practise, the better to balance 
    so not to fall, but, perhaps more… 
To meet today, to greet, a reason to leave the house,
    more than a mission of healthful exercise ….

I look around this circle, kind faces lined, 
    with years, marked with those signs of cares, of joys, 
of lives lived in another time, young mothers once
    so much to tell, coming together here
 to gently share, short stories of the week just passed,  
 and yet, so much more to say, 
      not now perhaps, but on another day….
